Which Wyze cameras can stream RTSP

Wyze's firmware page lists what is currently offered. If your model is not there, the standard firmware is all there is, and the Wyze app is the only official viewer.
Install the RTSP firmware and switch it on
The RTSP firmware replaces the camera's normal firmware. Download it from Wyze's firmware page and install it from a microSD card, following Wyze's instructions for your model. Then open the camera in the Wyze app, go to its settings, Advanced Settings → RTSP, switch RTSP on, choose a username and password, and tap Generate URL. The address looks like rtsp://user:password@192.168.1.70/live.
Reserve the camera's IP address in your router, since the RTSP address depends on it.
Add it in IP Camera Viewer
Add the camera manually by address. Enter rtsp://camera-ip/live as the address and type the username and password into the login fields; if you paste the full generated URL, the app moves the login into those fields for you. Wyze cameras do not support ONVIF, so they never appear in a scan.
The app's built-in help lists Wyze among cloud-only cameras, because that is true of the standard firmware. A camera running the RTSP firmware is an ordinary RTSP camera and plays like any other.
Trade-offs of the RTSP firmware
- It falls behind. Wyze publishes it as a separate, less frequently updated build, so it can miss features and fixes that reach the standard firmware first.
- It is one stream. There is no separate sub-stream address, which matters in grids and on mobile data.
- You can go back. Installing the standard firmware the same way removes RTSP again.
Newer Wyze cameras: the bridge route
For models without RTSP firmware, some owners run docker-wyze-bridge, a community project, on an always-on computer, NAS or Home Assistant system. It signs in to your Wyze account, pulls each camera's video and re-serves it as RTSP on the bridge's port 8554, at addresses such as rtsp://bridge-ip:8554/front-door. IP Camera Viewer can play those like any RTSP camera.
It is not a Wyze product. It depends on Wyze's cloud service, needs your Wyze login, and can stop working when Wyze changes its systems. Treat it as a hobby setup, and if you want local video without workarounds, choose cameras that support RTSP or ONVIF as standard.
Troubleshooting
- No RTSP menu in Advanced Settings: the camera is still on standard firmware, or the model has no RTSP build.
- Authentication Failed: use the RTSP username and password set in that menu, not your Wyze account.
- Camera Unreachable: the camera's IP changed. Generate the URL again and update the address.
Frequently asked questions
Does Wyze support RTSP?
Only through a separate RTSP firmware that Wyze published for the Wyze Cam v2, the first Wyze Cam Pan and the Wyze Cam v3. The standard firmware on every Wyze camera is cloud-only.
What is the Wyze RTSP URL?
rtsp://camera-ip/live on the default port 554, with the username and password set under Advanced Settings → RTSP in the Wyze app.
Does the Wyze Cam v4 have RTSP?
Not officially. There is no Wyze RTSP firmware for the v4; community tools such as docker-wyze-bridge re-stream it through Wyze's cloud, without Wyze's support.
Is the Wyze RTSP firmware safe to use?
It is Wyze's own firmware, but it is updated less often than the standard version and can trail it on fixes. Keep the camera on your home network, and switch back to standard firmware if you stop using RTSP.
Why does the app call Wyze a cloud-only camera?
Because on standard firmware it is. A Wyze camera running the RTSP firmware is added by its RTSP address and plays normally.
